There is no doubt that if you want to have a successful online business then you must get website traffic – and plenty of it.

Remember, you traffic will build over time, it is not an overnight project although it would be nice if it was.  You can however, make the build up time to get website traffic shorter if you follow simple, proven techniques that the successful marketers do.

Let me start with the basics.  You will be surprized at how many website owners neglect the foundations of fundamental seo (search engine optimization).

Firstly, choose a main keyword that you are targeting.  Preferably one that has plenty of searches and not too much competition. Make sure that your Title Tag, Meta Description and Meta Keyword Tag have the keyword inserted.  This will require you to know a little HTML but it is not too difficult.

When you do this, do not mention the keyword more than once in each tag.  If you do, it could be viewed as spamming and your site will suffer for it.

Pay attention to the H1, H2 and H3 tags as well and make sure your chosen keyword appears in there.

Avoiding using Javascript.  It really is not very search engine friendly, HTML is always easier for the search engines to read.

When you are writing content for your site then make sure that any external hyperlinks are linked to your keywords as that is far more powerful than hyperlinking text such as ‘click here’.  Content is a huge factor when it comes to indexing and ranking well.  Keep your content fresh, original and of high value.  Good quality content will ensure your visitors stay on your site rather than clicking away.

Remember to submit your website to the major search engines.  These are Google, Yahoo and Bing and wait for them to index you.  Whatever you do, do not keep submitting as this will hinder the process and delay you indexing, exercise patience.

Many website owners choose to comment on other blogs as they can gain a valuable backlink to their site and get the blogs visitors to check out their site via the link that you leave.  The trick with this is not to go commenting on every blog you find, keep it relevant to your subject and look for blogs that have a page rank 3 or above as these should have more visitors.

Another powerful way to get website traffic is to offer to do a blog post for a fellow blogger who is in the same niche.  This is a kind of ‘scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours’ venture.  Bloggers are constantly writing content so to have a break from it is refreshing for them.  Plus, you get exposure to your site from their visitors….very cool!

There are a magnitude of ways that you can get website traffic for free, and far too many to list in a simple blog post.  Some do not generate as much as you would like but some will give you all the traffic you need to make a healthy living online.

Successful marketers are the ones who ensure that they find out the best methods and utilize them for maximum profit.

How To Increase Your Website Traffic With Strategic Articles Submissions

March 4, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

If your desire is for making money online by driving free traffic to your site so it can thrive you need to make sure that you provide quality and valuable content in your articles.  By engaging the readers interest you can create a hoard of avid fans to read what you have to say.

Article submission can be so powerful in this quest and can increase your traffic tremendously.  Article submission is free but it pays to choose which sites you submit to carefully for the most powerful effect.  Sites that have a huge amount of visitors are always the best option.  If you want to check to see the sites visitor level then you can do this quickly and easily by typing the sites URL into Quantcast.

When you find a site that you think may be worthwhile, make sure you read through their editorial guidelines before you continue.  Doing this can save you having the article rejected and having to adapt it then wait for the editors to aprove it.  The most common guidelines relate to issues such as the length (word count) of the article, if the article is a blatent promotion of a product or service and if it contains any external links to sales pages or affiliate sites.  It is vital though to make sure that your link to your own site is in your bio box.  If you are interesting, your readers will use natural curiosity to find out more about you and consequently click on your link.

When writing articles, make sure you choose topics that you know about well.  This will speed up the process dramatically as you will not have to spend valuable time performing lengthy research.  Your expertise will shine through your words to your readers too.  Bluffing and waffling can be spotted a mile off to your readers and this ultimately your online business will suffer.

To get substantial amounts of visitors, there is no use just knocking together the odd article every now and then.  You need to be submitting plenty of high quality articles with eyeball wrenching headlines and do it on a consistent basis.  Plan carefully and set yourself a target of how many articles you can do and how often – then stick to it.

Do keyword research before you even start writing, that way your articles could very well appear in search engine results and rankings which will yield you a good source of visitors to your site.  Include plenty of keywords and dot them throughout your articles but be careful not to overdo it or you could be penalized for being spammy.  You may briefly rank high in the search engines but it will not be for long.

Keep looking forward and concentrating on submitting your articles to high traffic blogs and websites.  Do not get disheartened, just keep going and the results will come.  Soon you will be making money online from the comfort of your own home.

If you learn the techniques with article marketing well then you will provide quality free traffic to your website and not have to go down the route of paid advertising.  All the sales you make will be 100% profit.  As your writing skills improve then so will your traffic.  You will build a solid relationship with your visitors who will in turn provide you with the sales or subscribers you need to make a good living online.
